
Dr. Greg Jones,
Founder of BMRGA
Dr. Greg Jones has been a primary custodian father since 1997, and
started Black Men Raising Girls Alone (BMRGA) in Prince George's County,
Maryland in 1998. His daughters, Angel and Atiya, are now 24 and 14,
respectively. BMRGA has grown into a national organization with members
in California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts,
Nevada, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia and the
District of Columbia. As President of BMRGA, Dr. Jones is committed
to reaching out to girls that are not being mothered in the home by
developing programs that strengthen their fathers. He also seeks to
eradicate the negative image of black males in our communities and
in the media, and seeks to demonstrate Christ's victory to the world
by who he is and by living as a function of his goldly character.
Dr. Jones grew
up in Pittsburgh, Pa., and has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics
from the University of Pittsburgh, a Masters Degree in Math Education
from Howard University, and a Ph.D. in Statistics from the University
of Maryland at College Park. He has also engaged in post-doctoral
work in Economics and Finance.
Dr. Jones is well
read in Ancient African history, and has incorporated this into the
academic focus of BMRGA. He also has interest and experience in economics,
finance, and investing, and has developed the finance portion of the
BMRGA program, which includes everything from getting out of debt
and tithing, to buying and selling stocks and trading stock options.
Dr. Jones was
selected as a Washington, D.C. UnSung Hero for 2001 by Tribune Broadcasting
and BlackVoices.com. He has appeared in The Iyanla Vanzant Show, The
Travis Smiley Show, The Washington Post, The Washington Times, Essence
Magazine OnLine, and numerous radio stations, television stations,
newspapers, and magazines in the Washington, D.C. and Baltimore area.
He is currently
writing a book on fatherhood, to be published in late 2004.
